No PHP problem

You might have heard of a scare around websites that use PHP as a programing language, and pretty much all wordpress sites use it, as this on does. However, I received a notice from our provider that there was no issue on our servers with the PHP that we use. That’s good. I was worried.

What a Week!

So today is a Friday and let me tell you it has been a roller coaster on the stock exchange! Yesterday was pretty scary. Pretty much everything I had that was tech related dropped, many even 20 to 40 dollars! Naturally, this morning, I checked in a little before 9:00 am and as it turned over to 9:30 I watched the numbers shift. I like to watch in the mornings as the prices of stocks start to roll around. I check them by going through my list on Yahoo Finance and watch the numbers dance around.

As I suspected, the ones that yesterday that ended higher (like Proctor and Gamble) dropped down and those that had been beaten down started to rise. That means that today we will see a rise in the Nasdaq as tech stocks are climbing. Texas Instruments is up 5 dollars, and AMD is up around 11. Even HPE and Intel are up at least a little bit. But then the problem is that others that went up yesterday are now going down. But it’s not all tech. Palantir and Nvidia are both down a little. Not as bad as they were yesterday, but they are still losing ground. Amazon and Google are both down too. I am only looking at my stocks here, so I don’t know what is happening with Meta, MU or Dell. I don’t own any of them.

I heard that Meta is considering a new split where they will have a class B (no vote) stock and that will end up being interesting. It’s not a regular stock split like I am used to and I don’t know exactly how it will work. But I’m going to watch for it. Hopefully it will be cheaper than the regular Meta stock.

It will be interesting to see how this week closes out. My big purchase this morning was 3 shares of Ford stock. They are down around $11.50 which is lower than most of the ones that I had bought previously so every now and then I make a purchase of them when they are low.

In the S&P 500

I recently added RSPA to my portfolio and that is an equal weighted ETF based on the S&P 500 index. Because it is equal weighted, it doesn’t float with the changes in Nvidia or all the Mega Cap Stocks that get extra weight in the usual S&P 500 indexes. I think it’s kind of a truer picture of the way the stock market is moving and to be honest, today the RSPA is down about 20 cents. Not too bad, since I know that the weighted version is down more. I don’t know if it means anything or not, but I like to watch things like that.

Weird News

I find it odd when the financial news has articles about Air BNB changing rules on if people need to wash their dishes before they check out. I just think that’s odd. Why is that in the financial news? I don’t actually stay in BNBs so it doesn’t really mean much to me, but will that really effect the stock market?

I also hear that Elon wants to get into the cell phone market or at least the carrier service. I know he has Starlink and I guess it’s an extension of that, but does he really want to compete with ATT, Verizon and T-Mobile? I suppose he does. I think it will take him a little while to make that a reality. He always says things will happen earlier than it actually does. So I’m not holding my breath, yet.

This new class of stock from Meta might be fun. I’m not sure how it will all work, but it will be interesting to watch. It’s supposed to be something like Google’s where they have Googl and Goog stocks. Only one of them gets votes during board meetings, and the other one doesn’t. They do price out a little differently but not enough to make much of a difference.

My food stocks had a great day yesterday as Tech fell, they went up a good bit, but today they lost a big chunk of that. My food stocks are like Campbell’s, General Mills, and Kraft Heinz. McCormick (which I don’t own but will someday) did the same thing. Jump up yesterday and falling back today. Seems like when times are bad, people sell tech stocks and buy food stocks, then change their minds and go back. Odd. I just stick with what I have and maybe buy a bit more when they drop enough. Like I just did with Ford. That was dividend money too. I didn’t move any money to do it.

The FED will be talking in a few days, and maybe we’ll find out what their plans are through the end of the year. My guess? I think they will not do anything for October but will do another raise in December. That will be after Christmas, so it won’t hurt so bad at that point except for people who have big charges on their credit cards! That’s what I think will happen.

Brent Oil was up to 113 dollars yesterday, and the other oil ran close to $95. Now Brent is 117 and crude is 102. Things were supposed to be getting better!
