What a week that was!
Holy moly! The AI stocks are going crazy again. A little while ago, I spent almost 400 dollars to buy one share of Micron. As of Friday night, it was almost 750. Nvidia is up over 215, AMD is at 450, and Google is at 400! These are something like 600% increases. Intel, which was at 20 dollars a year ago, is now over 180. I think all the AI stocks are going up. Even SMCI is up (though I’m still in the red with them). I bought Western Digital at 150 and it’s at 480 now. The S&P500 which tends to track the MAG7 is almost at 7400 today. That’s crazy! A little while ago they were wondering if we’d hit 7500 by the end of the year. We are only 5 months in and it’s getting mighty close.
I still remember the feeling of a couple of days ago when I was rubbing my eyes because I thought I was not seeing the figures right when Micron went up 66 dollars in a day. And then AMD did the same thing. I guess everyone just forgot about the Iran war and the price of gasoline.
What’s up with the war?
Well, Iran was supposed to either agree or disagree with the latest proposal for a peace deal yesterday. They haven’t done anything except attack more UAE locations. I think they are just stringing the president along to give them time to tunnel to the nuclear facility and get it out. Then they can say “what nuclear dust? Tee hee, tee hee.” And the president is going to be on his way to China here shortly and will probably still not heard from them.
Speaking of China, I hope the president doesn’t insult the Chinese president while he’s there. He’s already insulted the rest of the world. They all hate us again. He says they respect us, but that’s because he thinks he’s being tough. I think they all laugh at him. But that’s just my view. I just wish we’d get things back on track.
The blockade is still up and I think we fired on an Iranian ship that tried to get through. There’s all this talk about the US firing on Iran and them retaliating but the US says Iran fired first. They are playing the finger pointing game again. Even with the blockade up my Chevron and Exxon stocks are going down some. What does that mean? Are we closer to a deal than anyone is letting on?
I heard that Russia is saying that the end of the Ukraine war is almost here. I don’t know what that means either. I am praying that it all works out and we get things back to normal again. I’m just not sure what normal is!
Back to AI
I heard that the reason that Intel and AMD are doing better is that they make CPUs, and with Nvidea making GPUs to do the AI stuff, the CPUs were not as important. However, now that Agentic AI is starting to take off, they find that they need to use CPUs with the GPUs at a 1 to 1 ratio. And I think that Intel’s foundry business is starting to work too.
All I know is that last week was a wild one, and I hope that we can maintain the momentum as we continue into next week.
