The closing 15 minutes
I don’t know why but I have noticed that there are certain times when things move fast on the stocks. The first is that hour between 9:30 and 10:30. There is something I call the 10 o’clock dip when some stocks just take this crazy dip in that time frame. The stock drops down sharply and then starts working it’s way back up. Sometimes, it goes up past where it started and other times it makes it about halfway. But if you watch first thing in the morning on the one-day chart, you can see the 10 o’clock dip. Not every stock, and some go up like crazy at that time, but usually i see dips.
But I also notice that in the last 15 minutes before the close of the market day (3:45pm to 4pm) that several stocks make sudden changes. Usually going down. I can’t help but wonder if it’s because of day trading going on. They wait till the last minute before selling a stock that they’ve watched going up during the day and as the day closes out, they sell off.
That’s just a guess of course. I have no idea what it’s like to be a day trader. But that seems likely to me.
But like today, I checked in during the day and saw some of my stocks going up pretty well, and even some of my losers coming out of down status. But at the end of the day, they were back down again. I’m not trying to take profits but rather just be a part of the company so I do get excited when I see my stocks go up in value. But I don’t try to get the most out of them.
