What the heck just happened?
I find it really crazy. Yesterday, the S&P was going up from a low of around 6500. It went to 6900 for a few days and today it’s up well over 7100! I know that economists have been saying that it might hit 7600 by the end of 2026 but wow! this is a pretty big jump. I don’t know if it will last but the bulk of my holdings have gone up. I did notice that Exxon and Chevron went down, and I checked the news and there is something about the Strait of Hormuz being opened up to tankers which is glorious news! So, the price of oil is going down and that’s also probably why my Exxon and Chevron stocks went down. No worries.
I am making a prediction
I got to thinking that with all this talk about energy, between the oil and natural gas and the electricity costs with the AI requirements and the problems with the war in Iran, that maybe a solution is the renewable energy companies. I know that our current president hates windmills and is really against any kind of renewable energies, but what about our NEXT president. I have a feeling that our next president will be more inclined to encourage renewable energy sources and even though that is still a couple of years away, maybe this is the time to start looking into that.
Europe and Asia are certainly making the best of it. There is a reasonable market for it over in other countries, and only our president is against it, so maybe that will be one of the changes when the administration changes. If it is, the renewable energy companies should have a great year come 2028. I’m thinking that right now might be the time to start investing in some of that.
I don’t know much about the renewable companies, and to be honest a lot of them are not US companies so they aren’t on a lot of watch lists. But I did find an ETF that is specialized in renewable energies. Actually, I found a couple but one that I could afford! It’s ICLN, iShares Global Clean Energy ETF. Right now, the price is around $19 and change. It is also good exposure to global stocks as opposed to all US stocks. So, I put in $200.00 and got a little over 10 shares. It only pays dividends twice a year, but it does pay dividends around 12 or 13 cents per share.
The important thing is that I am getting into investment of renewable energy knowing that at some point our government will realize how important that they are to our survival and will start pushing the use of them. In the meantime, I will just throw a little more money into it every now and then to grow it. So far, it is going in and out of the red in my portfolio from gaining a few dollars to losing a few dollars. I am expecting it to take a while to really perk up, and to be honest I just feel good knowing that I am contributing to the march to renewable energy.
Making my money back
I am pretty close to being back to where I was a year ago as far as my success. My G/L is almost where it was before all this crazy stuff started happening. Now if we can just keep going on settling these issues in Iran, maybe this will be a good year after all! No more surprises please, Mr. President! Let’s just all get along.
