In the name of diversification, I was looking to buy into a REIT. Real Estate Investment Trust. The first one I found that looked good was Apple Hospitality. At first, I thought it was related to the iPhone company, but it doesn’t have any relation there.
This company buys hotels and then runs them. They aren’t buying property and then leasing it, they actually run the hotels. They are good ones too. Courtyards, Hyatt’s, Marriotts etc. My expectation was that with the pandemic being over, that people would start to travel again. I thought maybe business travel would jump back in, but I guess it seems that companies had gotten used to using Zoom to do all their long-distance work.
And then more recently, Tariff wars and people not wanting to come to our country as tourists has really hurt the hotel industry. And with the economy being so bad, people are just not taking big vacations like they used to.
I am hoping that will all turn around at some point, and when it does, I will still own this stock!
